The search for remote internships is similar to the traditional in-person experiences. The first step for students is to use filters to browse the job boards on job-posting platforms to identify an opportunity of interest. All applications typically require a resume and possibly a cover letter, which will be submitted online.
3. What is the best way to prepare for a Zoom interview?
Do your research! Students should look at their college’s career services page to see what resources are available. Students can also search for interview guides, articles, Youtube videos and blogs to help. At Lehigh, students can find a virtual interview practice tool that allows you to choose questions based on positions and industries of interest. The Big Interview is a step by step interview training platform with AI-based feedback. There are over 140 video lessons as well as mock interview practice with video recording.

In addition to industry-specific knowledge, it is important to highlight one’s ability to think critically and problem solve in a remote environment. Students should discuss their ability to be organized, but also adaptable while managing time wisely. Employers and project coordinators are also looking for individuals who are comfortable with technology, have strength and perceptiveness in communicating and creative with ways to collaborate with others in the remote work space.

The increase in remote work has opened many more opportunities for students. Companies that were not location accessible to students now offer work from anywhere. Many of the first steps for students to learn about career topics are found from information on the Handshake resource page or the Hire Lehigh blog. There are also guides on many career topics, including interviewing, resumes and cover letters. These resources are available 24/7 and are built to help Lehigh students learn the basics on many career topics.
In addition to virtual tools, students are highly encouraged to use drop-in hours during Career Lab (Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.) to get help with their career tasks. Career coaches are also available to provide mock interviews, career coaching and assist with career planning via 1-on-1 appointments. Students can schedule an appointment via Handshake.
