International Student Profiles: A chat with Eleni

eleniInternational Student Profiles share perspectives from Lehigh students from all over the world! Eleni Karyofylli, ‘22 is majoring in Arts and Engineering: Electrical Engineering (BS), Product Design (BA). We sat down to chat with Eleni—here’s what they had to say...

Hometown: Thessaloniki, Greece

Why did you choose to attend Lehigh? I chose Lehigh for its rigorous engineering program and overall flexibility in academics which allows me to pursue two degrees in my fields of interest. Another reason why I chose Lehigh is its generous financial aid package which made it possible for me to attend even as an international student.

What is your favorite academic experience? My favorite class at Lehigh was Art 003: Two Dimensional Design. It inspired me to pursue Product Design as a second major. I love how Lehigh is very accommodating to everyone’s academic interests and needs. I was hesitant at first before I had made my decision because I was not sure whether what I wanted to do was possible or not. But I sought academic counseling and I was able to create an academic plan for the rest of my time at Lehigh and ensure the financial support that I needed.

What helped with your adjustment to life at Lehigh and in the US? What helped me the most to adjust to life here in the US was definitely the International Orientation that I participated in upon my arrival to campus. Through that experience I got to learn more about Lehigh and college life in the US but also I met people that were going through the same life changes as I was and that gave me comfort and confidence. I met some of my best friends to this day during my first 4 days in college and for that I am really grateful.
