Meaningful Objects: Patrick Stanton ’26

Major: Mechanical Engineering
Hometown: White Plains, New York
Object: Formula race car and trophy

Meaning Behind the Object:

Stanton joined Formula SAE at Lehigh, where his team builds a race car each year to compete in Michigan against 120 schools internationally. In 2025, the team won a first-place trophy for the car’s efficiency. This year, they are racing LR-26, captured in the photos of Stanton holding the team’s trophy. During his first-year orientation, Stanton said he remembers the moment when the team was tuning the engine in the bay: “I remember thinking: ‘This is what I want to do and this is what I want to join,’” he said.

As he prepares for his new role as a machine design engineer at Space X, he reflects on his time at Lehigh: “I’ve always loved cars and that’s why I wanted to be an engineer growing up. Coming to Lehigh, I saw this club on social media and was hooked. In the past three years, our team has gone from 82nd place to 68th to 28th last year. We’ve made massive improvements and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.”
