Meaning Behind the Object:

Lexy Guazzone ’26 cherishes peaceful moments sipping tea from a ceramic teacup she bought while visiting Taiwan during a semester studying abroad in Singapore. The cup not only reflects Guazzone’s love of tea, but also her determination and the personal growth she experienced during her time in Singapore. This summer, Guazzone will join Boeing as an engineer while also pursuing her master’s in aerospace and space systems engineering from Lehigh.

“[The teacup is] a memory of perseverance during my study abroad,” Guazzone said. “It was eye-opening in the sense that I was now independent and on the other side of the world. I was very proud of being there. If there's any object that I don't want to lose, it is this. It's a sign that I kept going despite the difficulties, the barriers and the constant challenge of adapting to a new environment, especially as one of the only women in my engineering courses.”

This summer, she will join Boeing as an engineer while also pursuing her master’s in aerospace and space systems engineering from Lehigh.

Guazzone said she looks forward to gaining hands-on experience in the aerospace industry, continuing her academic studies and taking time to reminisce and appreciate her Lehigh journey over a comforting cup of tea.

“This cup has been through all my exams, mornings spent studying and my projects,” Guazzone said. “It’s just the teacup alongside my life over the last few years at Lehigh.”
