Hi-Pot Restaurant 2

A Foodie’s 5 Favorite Restaurants in Bethlehem, Pa.

I am a complete foodie, and my need for good food is no less than my desire for a peaceful world. When I first came to Lehigh University, I was worried that I would be disappointed with the food options for the next four years, but the city of Bethlehem has given me many surprises.

I am from China, and it is very difficult to find Chinese food that suits my tastes in the United States, but in Bethlehem, I found Chinese food that meets my needs. Not only that, the local Western restaurants here are also amazing, allowing my "Chinese stomach" to fall in love with authentic Western food.

Here are my five recommended Bethlehem restaurants.

  1. Nawab Indian Restaurant

If you find yourself in Bethlehem and craving some delicious Indian food, look no further than Nawab Indian Restaurant. With a menu featuring classic dishes like butter chicken, tikka masala and biryani, as well as a variety of vegetarian and vegan options, Nawab offers something for everyone. I highly recommend trying the Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan. The rich curry with tender chicken is really satisfying. The Garlic Naan is different from regular Naan, as it has scallions and garlic sauce baked into it, making it delicious even on its own.

  2. Hi-Pot

If you're looking for an authentic Taiwan hotpot experience, look no further than Hi-Pot. With a wide variety of fresh ingredients and flavorful broths to choose from, Hi-Pot is the perfect place to enjoy a hot pot meal with friends and family. As a loyal customer of Hi-Pot, I strongly recommend that you try all of their hot pot flavors. At first, I only liked the lamb hot pot, but my curiosity led me to try other hot pot options, and I was equally amazed. As a side dish, the popcorn chicken is a must-try. Also, Hi-Pot's various milk teas are delicious.

  3. ShangWei Szechuan

If you're in the mood for spicy and flavorful Chinese food, look no further than ShangWei Szechuan. This family-owned restaurant serves up authentic Szechuan cuisine, with dishes ranging from the classic Kung Pao chicken to the more adventurous Dandan noodles. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable, making it a great spot for a casual meal with friends or family. Don't miss out on their delicious dumplings and spicy hotpot. Whether you're a seasoned fan of Szechuan cuisine or trying it for the first time, ShangWei Szechuan is not to be missed.

  4. The Bayou

If you're in the mood for some authentic Cajun-style cuisine, look no further than The Bayou. This cozy restaurant is a five-minute drive from Bethlehem's Main Street, and its menu boasts classic Louisiana dishes like gumbo, jambalaya and po' boys. The dishes that impressed me mostly were the fried green tomatoes and the Brisket Mac n’ Cheese. The friendly staff and laid-back atmosphere make it a good place for a fun night out with friends or a romantic date. Don't forget to try their impressive selection of craft beers and cocktails, too.

  5. Apollo Grill

The Apollo Grill specializes in creative cuisine that blends Mediterranean, Asian and American influences, and the menu has something for everyone. Although I have not visited it recently, I still remember the delicious Mesa Fried Calamari. I have always loved eating fried squid when I was young, and to describe Apollo Grill's calamari in one sentence, it's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The only calamari I have had that was possibly better was made by my friend's grandmother several years ago. In any case, you must try this delicious dish. Whether you're in the mood for a delicious burger or a fresh, flavorful salad, you won't be disappointed.

Bethlehem may be a small city, but it's big on flavor. With a variety of dining options to suit every taste and budget, you're sure to find something delicious to try. From Cajun-style cuisine to Italian classics, and everything in between, the food scene in Bethlehem is not to be missed.
